About me
I grew up near Manchester in northwest England, surrounded by a family on artistic paths. From a young age, art was a significant part of my life, allowing me to explore its meaning and importance deeply. However, things changed when I was seven and developed a stammer that affected many areas of my life. Despite this challenge, I felt a strong desire to embrace art as a means of self-expression and gaining self-understanding. Throughout my journey, I have examined mental health and perception more closely, which has brought my voice to the forefront of my practice as a means of empowering myself. During my BA (hons) in Fine Art at the University of Staffordshire, I have deepened my understanding of the collective and personal pursuit of the expansive and expressive nature of the arts. This understanding fuels my passion to develop my skills further and pursue a fulfilling career in the arts and therapy.
Artist Statement
Through my practice, I delve into various subject matters that centre around the collective and individual human experiences—using the concept of the sublime and different perspectives to explore the power of experiences and spaces. This interest stems from my experiences with a stammer, which has played a significant role in my life through both positive and negative instances that have impacted my relationship with my speech and words. By utilising visual and auditory media, I aim to share my perspective on peace and the psychological impacts of environments, spaces, and people that have shaped my comfort level in using my voice. This subject is more than just an academic exploration; it is personal, as it empowers my voice and allows others to understand the complexities of language and speech.
