In this series of artworks, I explore the themes of memory that are impacted by mental health. Focusing on how we relate and understand the memories that were either long forgotten or have been repressed. Memories can be forgotten or repressed when someone experiences a traumatic or intense experience that the brain tries to block out as a protective defence mechanism.

'I Don't Remember This', Acrylic and charcoal on canvas board, A2, 2023
Through layering acrylic paint, I focused more on making the spaces, figures and impressions of memories. This recreates the undefined recollection of memories, creating a perfect flow and movement of imagination. The outcome brings a sense of ambiguity and confusion, adding to the idea of trying to understand what you are seeing when an unknown memory resurfaces.
